General Weekly Reports
(Boar health and introduction into the unit or stud)

A healthy boar is essential for healthy semen with good fertility. A boar which is sick can be reluctant to mount and may produce defective semen at any time over the next 6 weeks. In some circumstances, once sick the boar may become permanently sub-fertile. Note: heat stress also results in infertility. As a guide, a normal boar will breath 15 to 20 times a minute and it should be difficult to see his breathing. If the breaths are labored and at 40 to 50 breaths per minute, the boar is heat stressed.

A detailed daily record of boar health is advised.
