Standard Treatment Regimes
Fortunately, the boar is normally only subjected to a small number of common complaints. A guideline for stock people should be designed in consultation with your veterinarian. The standard treatment routines provided are advisory only and are to give a guide to the type of detail required. Ideally, medicate boars by mouth using tablets to avoid upsetting the stockman/boar relationship. Medication by mouth can be easily provided by "hiding" the medication in an apple, grape or chocolate, for example.

Boar 1st line treatments

All boars which are unwell must be reported to the stud manager, Unit Veterinary Surgeon and recorded on the individual boar record cards

Scour

Reason for concern

A boar with a high temperature can be infertile for 6 weeks

To investigate disease within the reproductive organs, it is possible to subdivide the different parts of the ejaculate and check for white blood cells and bacteria in each of the parts.
