Targets - production approach

(targets - traditional approach)

There are many reasons why individual farms fail to reach their potential.

This page, aims to provide a guide to further investigations.

This approach revolves around batch farrowing and all-in/all-out production

The cornerstone is that the production revolves around the farm's facilities rather than the pig's themselves.

Thus pigs weaned per sow is not relevant, but pigs weaned per farrowing place is a major fulcrum.

Note in the example above, the producer raises their own gilts - thus these animals are "artificially" added to the pork output as they would be normally sold.

If you purchase gilts (as most producers do) ensure that a "n" is placed in the relevant box.

It is accepted that many of the above questions are not asked in "traditional" pig production reports and the answers may need to be found - for example pork paid per year
