DAILY MAINTENANCE
1 All drinkers are to be checked daily.
2 All drinkers are to provide:

4 If any drinker fails to function as above, the drinker must be fixed immediately.
5 Number of drinkers:
  • There should be one nipple or bite drinker for every 10 pigs.
  • For each trough drinker: 1 foot per 20 finishing pigs.
  • For each bowl drinker: up to 16 finishing pigs.
  • One turkey drinker to 40 weaners.

 

Cleaning:

  • Other headers tanks should always have covers at least twice a year.
  • All in/all out should also include the water supply.
1 Troughs and bowls are to be thoroughly cleaned between each batch of pigs.
2 Tie up the ball cock in the header tank.
3 Remove the drinker furthest from the header tank and drain the system .
4 Remove each drinker and thoroughly clean and ensure they are functional.
5 If necessary, pressure wash inside the pipe line to move sediment.
6 Thoroughly clean the inside of the header tank.
7 Re-fit all drinkers.
8 Add disinfectant to the header tank at a final dilution of 1:500.
9 Restore the water supply and leave for 10 minutes.
10 Re-drain the system and restore the water supply.
11 Ensure adequate water flows from each of the drinkers.
Turkey drinker
  • Clean out daily, brush plastic surface with weak iodine solution
  • Clean thoroughly and disinfect between batches
