Farrowing

Remove all sows and piglets from the
farrowing paddock. Remove all remaining feed from the
feeder. Ideally manage the farrowing
paddock so that the feeder is empty when the sow's leave |

Dismantle each farrowing arc and fender,
turn over and move to one side |

Examine straw for any
additional/missed/dead piglets and complete farrowing records |

4 |
Using a dairy brush and a yard brush
remove all faecal and straw material from inside the farrowing arc and the
fender. Place all material on the old
straw bed |

5 |
Burn all straw present in the lying area |
|
6 |
Leave the farrowing arc and fender
upside down for one night |
|
7 |
Clean out the feeder and water troughs
thoroughly. Turn the water off to the
water trough. |

8 |
Disinfect the inside of the farrowing
arc, fender, water troughs and feeders. Limewashing could be us |
|
9 |
Repair farrowing arc, in particular any
holes where draughts may enter the arc |
|
10 |
Rebuild the farrowing arc and fender on
a new site |
|
11 |
Ensure water supply is restored before
the farrowing paddock is restocked. |
