Agrosoft Hint for stablising pig flow

If you change your cull sow policy to breed all at weaning and only cull post pregnancy check – essential to help stabilise your pig flow; it is necessary to modify how you complete your Agrosoft sow records when the sow is actually culled.

Enter all the cull sows into the breeding pool as normal.  When the pregnancy target is reached cull all surplus cull sows.  While she may not have been pregnancy checked, when you remove the sow place a “+” in either the code 1 or code 2 columns.   This ensures that the Agrosoft programme does not count the days since the last servicing as wasted feed days.  This also removes the sow from the breeding data for this batch and corrects the fertility chart.

When removing cull sows which have been included as insurance in the batch breeding pool

– place a “+” in the code 1 or code 2 box.

If you do not remove the sow properly, then these sows will be assumed to have failed to farrow and the farm will record a lowering farrowing rate.  This is important because if the computer states that the farrowing rate is falling, the breeding target will need to be increased unnecessarily.

This is discussed in more detail on page 47 of the Agrosoft manual.
