What do pigs require in
their housing?
Six major components:
1. Sleeping area
2. Toilet
3. Somewhere to eat
4. Somewhere to drink
5. Somewhere to cool off
6. Somewhere to exercise
This automatically dictates the type of building design we should adopt.

feeding area – 6x a day 25
cm per pig to finish |

How much space does
a pig require? About 2-2.5 m2 per finishing pig – total area. Major concern Cooling – if pigs are not cool they will dig up the floor looking for the cool earth. The photograph shows a floor torn up by the pigs. |
